Rio Grande Herb Company, Inc.

This is the story of our humble beginnings, hard work, and success. 

Using his passion for nature, founder Charlie Sanchez, Jr., started Rio Grande Herb Company, Inc. in 1989 out of an extra bedroom and garage in Tome, New Mexico. With centuries of conventional remedies passed down from generation to generation, taught by his parents, Trini and Charlie Sanchez, Sr., combined with a career in fish and wildlife, herbs were in his blood. 

Between a full-time government job and farming, Charlie had to decide on the direction of his career plans. Charlie was presented with an offer he could not resist, with the company still in its infancy. In 1992, Rio Grande Herb Company was sold to entrepreneur and brother Phil Sanchez, Sr. He then began the hard work of seeding our wholesale business in the Land of Enchantment, Albuquerque, NM, becoming the stepping stone for the future. With a strong background in business and sales, Phil reached out to local retailers, such as Walgreens, John Brooks Supermarket, natural grocers, and independent pharmacies, to help expand our brand awareness. His ambition and hard work would eventually pay off. 

In 2001, Phil left the company unexpectedly with his untimely passing. This event would become a milestone to see if Rio Grande Herb Company would have a future. At the time, his son, age 22, was faced with the responsibility of what to do with the company. Would he sell or continue where his father left off?

Today, Rio Grande Herb Company, Inc. is located in Albuquerque, nestled between the Rio Grande River and the Sandia Mountains. It is still family-owned and operated by Phil Sanchez, Jr., to lead the way and pass on the family legacy of health from nature. ​ We want to thank God, through him, everything is possible, our family & friends, our customers, and everybody who has believed in us over the years.
